Police are investigating after an officer’s cruiser crashed into a lamp post in a busy downtown neighbourhood over the weekend.

On Saturday, shortly after 8:05 a.m., a male police officer was operating a marked police vehicle southbound on Dan Leckie Way at Fort York Boulevard, police told Now Toronto. A female officer was a passenger in the vehicle.

The officer attempted to make a right turn to travel westbound on Fort York Boulevard when they lost control of the vehicle.

The female officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released, according to police.

Video of the incident shared on social media shows the vehicle mounting the curb with multiple passersby in the vicinity.

David Shellnutt, who goes by The Biking Lawyer on X, shared footage of the incident.

“Const. Cindy Chung said in a statement that the driver was not impaired.” That’s good to hear, now please let us know how the heck this happened. The safety of the public demands it @TorontoPolice,” Shellnut wrote.

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services, police said.
